World of Beer

About the class: This new UNM class introduces students to the “World of Beer” from a geographic perspective. Students will learn about beer history/styles from different places around the world but will also be introduced to environmental issues and spatial patterns that influence beer geography right here in New Mexico!  By the end of this class, you’ll know a lot about beer and even more about seeing the world from a spatial point of view.

About the instructor(s): This course is convened by Dr. Maria Lane from GES, a historical geographer who has explored beer in many different world regions. She will be joined by a wide variety of guest speakers and experts who will visit the class throughout the semester. Students will have the opportunity to learn from the owners and managers of several Albuquerque breweries, and from other geographers on the UNM faculty.

NOTE: There is no age requirement for this course!
