Geographers utilize a variety of technologies to generate maps, and to store, analyze and interpret map information.


  • Cartography and Geovisualization
  • Geographic information Systems and other geospatial technologies
  • Remote Sensing


  • Federal Government Agencies: Department of Defense, Interior, Commerce, Agriculture, and State, Defense Mapping, National Aeronautics, Space Administration, Central Intelligence Agency
  • State and Regional Government Agencies: Departments of Transportation or Agriculture
  • Local government agencies, such as counties and cities: departments of planning, public works, transportation, parks, and public safety.
  • Private Industry, including telephone, utilities, construction, engineering, energy, environmental planning and consulting firms

  • Take courses in surveying and measurements, computer science, computer systems, database management, technical mathematics, drafting, statistics, optics, remote sensing, art and graphic design.
