2021 Outstanding Alumni Award

Each year, the department recognizes the professional accomplishments of one of our alumni with the Outstanding Alumni Award.

This year’s winner is Dara Saville.

Dara Saville has become a leader in environmental education in New Mexico since completing her M.S. degree with us in 2001. 

As the Founder and Executive Director of the Yerba Mansa Project, Ms. Saville has advanced environmental conservation and awareness along the Río Grande. In 2021, she published the book The Ecology of Herbal Medicine: A Guide to Plants and Living Landscapes of the American Southwest, which exemplifies her interest in connecting human health and ecosystem health.

Normally, our Outstanding Alumni Awardees give a speech at our graduation ceremonies, and we hope to host Ms. Saville next year.
